So what goes on at “Zelňák”, as the locals call it? We set ourselves the task of capturing the unique atmosphere of this square full of fresh food from local farmers, quality restaurants with outdoor seating, original food trucks and especially people meeting over a delicious meal. Join us on our exploration of the past and present of this lively place, which has been at the heart of Brno’s cultural and social life since time immemorial.

In the stylish Air Café one can choose from a wide range of beverages (the photo shows Coffee Spritz, i.e. coffee liqueur based on Flor De Caña rum, topped up with premium tonic and citrus), rum, spirits, whiskey and other drinks. Moreover, this summer you will have the chance to taste beer from the faGan microbrewery from Soběšice. Thanks to its interior and high quality service, you will also witness a simple but thought provoking combination of gastronomy and the honouring of the memory of our heroic airmen who fought during World War II in Great Britain.

Būcheck Food Truck next to the Tržnice building serves street food in the best sense of the word. We took pictures of the pop-up [RD1] with chicken and peppers in a bun. Similar interesting events with various specialties to take away can be seen here almost every day (unless the local chefs are treating visitors at various festivals to their delicious art). However, there are always a limited number of portions.

Where on Zelňák can you go for coffee spiced up with a little jazz? Podobrazy Jazz Coffee Shop is open literally from morning to evening, and apart from the coffee, cakes, desserts, drinks, lemonade and lots of other things to please your palate, the shop also regularly organises various music and gastronomic events.

Beer specials with a view of Zelňák in the Tržnice building – this is what CRAFTBEER Bottleshop & Bar is all about. You can try new as well as tried and trusted beers from Czech and foreign breweries. The bar has everything from classic bottom-fermented lagers to aromatic top-fermented ales. Beer is available on tap or in bottles and obviously can be taken away.

Slast means hookahs, cocktails and art. A unique atmosphere and cosy outdoor seating area make an excellent combination for an ideal evening experience for a bunch of friends, who want to chat, smoke a hookah and enjoy an original drink that really hits the spot. Whether you want to mark the end of a day spent exploring Zelný trh, or to just pop in for an unusual cocktail and start a relaxing evening, Slast is always definitely worth visiting.

Just as the Goose on a String Theatre has been an inherent part of Zelný trh for 3 decades, the provázek. dvůr establishment has been associated with it for more than a year. The transformation of the outdoor atrium as well as one of the oldest pub-clubs was the work of Martin Hrdina, a leading architect of Brno cafés. The place is run by the well-known Brno café manager Ondřej Pilát, known as Čestmír. Also thanks to them an evening spent here over a glass of something delicious is a real experience.

Situated above Zelný trh, the stylish Podnik café bar with a pleasant interior offers specialty coffee from all over the world as well as local desserts. Weekdays, breakfast is served until 2 p.m. and at weekends you can look forward to an exciting brunch menu. The atmosphere is enhanced by exhibitions of Brno artists, regularly on display in the Podnik.

Cosmopolis Café is a Viennese-style confectionary and coffee shop. It has an outdoor seating area in addition to its stylish indoor premises. The friendly and professional staff will offer you not only specialty coffee, but also desserts prepared in-house by a team of confectioners exclusively from natural ingredients applying traditional methods, without added colours or artificial sweeteners.

For a pleasant gastronomic treat head for Bistro Romano in the Tržnice building. Pinsa Rromana, i.e. a light and easy-to-digest type of Italian pizza, slow-roasted meat, vegetables and soups, just waiting for you to order. The mission of Bistro Romano is to create and maintain jobs over a long term period for people with disabilities and thus integrate them into the labour market.

Zelný trh is home to a lot of different gastronomic establishments. If you fancy trying Italian cuisine, head for Restaurant TEFITI for fresh fish, seafood, risotto, pasta and salads that can be enjoyed in the outside seating area overlooking the square.
